Monitoring Neurological Disease in Phonation

چکیده
Abs t r ac t . It is well known that many neurological diseases leave a fingerprint in voice and speech production. The dramatic impact of these pathologies in life quality is a growing concert. Many techniques have been designed for the detection, diagnose and monitoring the neurological disease. Most of them are costly or difncult to extend to primary services. The present paper shows that some neurological diseases can be traced a the level of voice production. The detection procedure would be based on a simple voice test. The availability of advanced tools and methodologies to monitor the organic pathology of voice would facilítate the implantation of these tests. The paper hypothesizes some of the underlying mechanisms affecting the production of voice and presents a general description of the methodological foundations for the voice analysis system which can estímate correlates to the neurological disease. A case of study is presented from spasmodic dysphonia to ¡Ilústrate the possibilities of the methodology to monitor other neurological problems as well.

متن کاملPhonation Biomechanics in Quantifying Parkinson's Disease Symptom Severity
It is known that Parkinson’s Disease (PD) leaves marks in phonation dystonia and tremor. These marks can be expressed as a function of biomechanical characteristics monitoring vocal fold tension and imbalance. These features may assist tracing the neuromotor activity of laryngeal pathways. Therefore, these features may be used in grading the stage of a PD patient efficiently, frequently and rem...
متن کاملVoice quality analysis to detect neurological diseases
Neurological degenerative diseases are becoming a growing concern in modern society. The successful treatment of these diseases depend greatly in early detection. Speech has been routinely used by specialists as a valuable correlate in the assessment of pathological disease. Specifically voicing can serve as a very introspective correlate for this practice. The present paper uses a methodology ...

Background and purpose: Airway assessment is very important in anesthesia. The aim of this study was to determine the diagnostic value of Mallampati test indicators in supine and sitting positions with and without phonation in anesthesia candidate patients. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study (diagnostic approach) was done in 200 adult patients ≥16 years, undergoing s...
متن کاملCorrelation between Acoustic Parameters and Disease Severity and Duration in Patients with Multiple Sclerosis
Background: Since in multiple sclerosis (MS), changes in speech and voice quality often precede other signs and symptoms; early diagnosis of these changes is necessary. In this study, an acoustic examination of phonation subsystem was performed. Due to the progressive nature of multiple sclerosis, the aim of this study was to examine the correlation between acoustic parameters ...
